OpenStage SIP Release Notes
The Wiki of Unify contains information on clients and devices, communications systems and unified communications. - Unify GmbH & Co. KG is a Trademark Licensee of Siemens AG.
The OpenStage 60 SIP and OpenStage 80 SIP Release Notes help you to find, in descending order:
- New implemented features
- Corrected bugs
- Known and still open issues (eventually with workarounds)
for each specific OpenStage SIP phone software version considered.
Read more about new or hidden SIP features.
Software versioning / naming
A new software versioning scheme was introduced, it requires that a new versioning name should be adopted for each software product.
Software product version will be now identified with the string:
V x[.y] R m.f.h
in which field:
- x[.y] denotes the Major release level
- m denotes the Minor release level
- f denotes the Fix release level
- h denotes the Hotfix level
This naming convention scheme does not imply any naming requirements for file / files available. |

General information
What’s New?
- Blue Angel” eco label for the OpenStage 15,20 &40 SIP Special highlight is the receipt of the Blue Angel eco label for the OpenStage 15,20 &40 SIP (handed over by the RAL gGmbH). Up to now Unify is the first and only company with their VoIP devices to adhere to these high standards on protecting the environment and climate with regards to energy efficiency and using eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes. Please visit: http://www.blauer-engel.de/en/products_brands/search_products/produkttyp.php?id=559
- Device based Call Recording for OpenStage SIP The feature "Call recording" relies on the presence of a (centralized) voice recorder in the network which acts as a SIP endpoint, and which a SIP phone can call to record the speech from an established call. The recorder will record all media sent to it. This approach was previously implemented on the Optipoint phones: The phone uses the audio mixing capabilities, normally used for the local audio conference capability, to merge the audio/media streams of both parties involved in the call and uses a supplementary call to connect to a voice recording device.
- OpenStage SIP: Push support for SEND URL This feature is based on the Send URL feature. The Send URL mechanism is enhanced with a push mechanism available for XML applications. With the push mechanism it is possible to control an LED on an FPK/FFK on the phone independently from user action on the FPK/FFK. Note: The send URL feature does not support NAT. That means that the IP addresses in both send URL HTTP request and the push request must be reachable both by the phone and the application server.
- Audible key click It is now possible to generate acoustic feedback (key clicks) on key press action. The user has control over which group of keys to produce the key click: Number keypad only or all keys. The user is able to select the Key click configuration option via WBM or the Settings menu on the phone itself.
- Simplified procedure to initiate a conference V2R2 has improvements in 2 ways: A new context sensitive menu item, “Start conference” respectively “Add to conference” is added to call menus for single-connected calls or connected conference calls respectively. The “Conference” FPK function has been modified so that if the FPK is pressed when there is a single call or a conference is connected, a normal consultation call is started and the other party is taken into the conference.
- Mobility Log-on/off times improved DLS Mobility log on/ log-off time is reduced from between 60 - 120 seconds down to approximately 30 seconds for an OpenStage IP phone registered on an OpenScape Voice server. However: In case of a forced log-on* it takes a little longer (between 30 & 60 seconds). FORCED LOGON - A Mobile user is already logged on a device and a logon on a different device is attempted.
- Fixed keys like Disconnect, Redial (OS 20&40), Call Forward & Voice Dial (OS 60&80) are now programmable The following functions become available for the FFKs (fixed function keys): Hold, Consult, Conference, Repertory Dial, New feature “Home button” (aka “Show phone screen”) for OS 20 SIP & OS SIP 40.
- Clear screen / Home button programmable on OS 15, 20 & 40 A new FPK/FFK feature providing a simple shortcut to Callview mode (to return the phone back to the home screen to make a new call). Pressing such a programmed FPK/FFK is the OS40/20/15 equivalent of pressing a dedicated CallView mode key (which OS40/20/15 does not have).
- OpenStage SIP: Secure Interface to OSM The interface between phone and OSM has been improved. The data is now encrypted so that the information between phone and OSM cannot be seen when tracing the network. The transfer of phonebook information is private. A new version of OSM is needed to work with OST V2R2: OpenStageManager V2 R2.2.0. From the user point of view to test the change, they just need to take the new version of OSM and use it the same way as before.
- Power save modes in compliance with Blue AngelWith version V2R2 and OpenStage 40 SIP the user now has greater control over the display brightness and backlight timeout in order to further reduce power savings. The display backlight timeout can now be set to better suit the user’s needs and the default values have also been reduced. For OpenStage 40 backlight can be set to turn off after: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 2 hours, 4 hours or 8 hours. Default value is 1 minute. Note: The OpenStage 40 display remains readable (in ambient light) when the backlight is off. OpenStage 15/20 is not affected because these models do not have a display backlight. With SW version V3R0 (coming later in 2011) the power save mode will also be available on OpenStage 60 & 80. This will be synchronized with the introduction of the new displays with LED backlight on OpenStage 60 and 80. The changes do not apply to the old CCFL-based displays. The behaviour and values for this older HW remain unchanged. Certification also requires that the factory default value for the ringer volumes is a maximum of 50%. The OpenStage range of IP phones already satisfies this criteria !!

V2 R0.16.0
What’s New?
- LDAP client simple search (RQ00027118) User interface change, for easier LDAP access
- SSH access (RQ00025302) Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged over a secure channel between two computers. Encryption provides confidentiality and integrity.
- Preview key functionality (RQ00025112) (Openscape Voice only) This enhancement introduces the ability for users to decide whether they pre-view lines before using them. They do this by switching the Preview mode on and off using an FPK
- Directed call pickup enhancements (RQ00025095) (Openscape Voice V4.0 only) This feature extends the Directed Pickup feature as implemented in OpenStage SIP V1R4 to allow the OpenStage user (keyset or non keyset) to pickup calls which have been manually held by a keyset user in the Openscape Voice environment.
- AICS ZIP tone (RQ00021476) This feature increases productivity of agents receiving calls distributed by an ACD system or for hunt group members. It allows an agent using a headset to put the phone into a mode where incoming calls are automatically answered without ringing and without any key press, and without the Openscape Voice providing any additional signalling information specific to the auto answer.
- Ringer preview (RQ00026726) The requirement is to change the ringer selection UI provided by the user menu, such that while the user is browsing the tones/melodies or files, they are automatically played to indicate what the chosen ringer will sound like.
- Distinctive ringing (RQ00023757, RQ00026540) The SIP Server may provide information within an incoming call indication or ringer request that a specific ringer is to be used. A table is maintained in the phone to provide a list of different ring types that may be selected by the switch for use with an incoming call.
- Dial plan (RQ00024810) The Dial Plan feature allows an OpenStage phone to determine the completeness of a dialled number so that the phone can start the dialling process without the user explicitly having to select a further option such as "dial" or "OK" after entering the last digit.
- Copy contact (RQ00024315) With this feature a Personal Phone Book contact can be automatically created using the contact details from LDAP or Call Log.
- Terminal host name (RQ00024220) This feature allows the string that the phone attempts to register with the DNS via DDNS to be customised by Admin.
- URL on FPK (RQ00026538) The basic requirement for the FPKs is that all keys (including those on any sidecar units attached) can be configured with a URL (termed "send URL" key). Pressing the key sends the URL to the server using an HTTP request.
