The tables below show the availability and class of Power over Ethernet (PoE) of optiPoint IP phones.

IP workpoints Power Supply methods

The optiPoint IP workpoints can be powered using different methods as listed in the following table:

  2. 2.0 2.1 See also IEEE802.3af Standard (PoE) related FAQ on the optiPoint 410/420 FAQ (General) page.
  3. HiPath AP 1120 no longer supports IEEE802.3af Standard (PoE), local AC/DC Power Supply unit is now included with each access device.
  4. The optiPoint 400 must be supplied with a PowerHub compliant with IEC 60950 regulation. The optiPoint 400 supports a pre-Standard IEEE 802.3af configuration that requires an 8 wires cable (Ethernet cable) using spare pairs as indicated on the table below.

AC/DC Power Supply unit

AC/DC Power Supply units ...

  • are available as external adapters for indoor use only, they could be used to supply IP workpoints should PoE not be available or not be used.
  • must be ordered separately from the IP workpoint device once required, please refer to each product's documentation to find them.
  • are optional accessory with specific Part Numbers, some of them are available in country specific variants such: EU, US (110V A.C.) and UK.

optiPoint 600

The optiPoint 600 workpoint must always be powered from a local power supply in the TDM mode, It may be powered locally or via PoE when used in the IP (CorNet-IP) mode.
The optiPoint 600 uses the same local power supply available for the optiPoint 500 and optiset E families.

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

As shown in the table above there are four different methods to feed power to IP workpoint. Not all of these methods are supported on every workpoints (See, as examples, differences about optiPoint 150 S, optiPoint 400, optiPoint 600 and HiPath AP 1120).

  • Pre-Standard IEEE 802.3af mid span PoE injectors (known also as power hubs) via spare pairs wires of Ethernet cabling infrastructure.
  • IEEE 802.3af Standard mid span (unused pair wires) as provided by the current and pre-Standard power hubs
  • IEEE 802.3af Standard end span (used pair wires) as provided by all data vendors from their Ethernet switches (including CISCO)
  • CISCO pre-standard (used pair wires) inline power as installed in many older Ethernet switches.

Power over Ethernet mid span (Power over Ethernet injector) is connected in cascade to exisintg Ethernet Switch or Hub devices. As such, it is a scalable solution for upgrading an existing network infrastructure to support Power over Ethernet.

Supported optiPoint devices

Find the part number on the nameplate on the underside of the telephone. See the * as wildcard for the device version.

For OpenStage devices see OpenStage power supply and PoE classes.
