Summary

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information. The passive tags collect energy from a nearby RFID reader's interrogating radio waves and responses to the read request.
Unify IP phones are equipped with a passive RFID chip containing MAC address, part number and production information. The data can be used to automate logistic processes for inventory management.
This page describes the RFID tag in more detail to support partners and customers using that tag for their own purposes.

RFID Tag Content

Following Unify phone families are equipped with an RFID tag:
  • OpenStage TDM
  • OpenStage HFA
  • OpenStage SIP
  • OpenScape Desk Phone IP HFA
  • OpenScape Desk Phone IP SIP
  • OpenScape Desk Phone CP SIP
  • OpenScape Desk Phone CP TDM

The RFID specification is described well in following Wikipedia article:

RFID tag used in OpenScape Desk Phone CP IP and TDM Family
  • UHF RFID Gen2 tag chip according EPCglobal v1.2.0
  • Operating frequency: 840 MHz - 960 MHz
  • Tag fully supports all parts of the "Specification for RFID Air Interface EPCglobal, EPCTM Radio-Frequency Identity Protocols, Class-1 Generation-2 UHF RFID, Protocol for Communications at 860 MHz to 960 MHz, Version 1.2.0".
  • 256 bit EPC memory: 240 bit used according to picture

Information on the RFID tag:
  • MAC address for IP phones
  • Serial number for TDM phones
