VLAN

We need to translate VLAN definition in english.

I would also add the below content after the definition section VLAN page:

For IP telephony implementations, it is usually desirable for VoIP devices to be part of VLANs that are isolated from the default data network.

This is done for a number of reasons which could include:

  • Problem detection
  • Troubleshooting
  • Use private IP addressing space RFC1918 (Address Allocation for Private Internets)
  • Security
  • Virus protection

To reduce administrative overhead and to allow IP workpoints to act as mini switches (connecting a PC workstation to the IP phone), it is necessary for the IP phone to automatically detect the correct Voice VLAN and tag all its traffic using this VLAN ID. The PC connected to the IP workpoint will send all its traffic untagged and thus use the default (data) VLAN.

and then also somewhere add a link to VLAN ID Discovery over DHCP wiki page because VLAN tagging and DHCP service used with optiPoint IP workpoint it would be useful.

What do you think ?
