English version The Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a file transfer protocol. TFTP provides a minimal command set and does not support complex security mechanisms. TFTP uses UDP, and implements a few minimal security mechanisms of its own to ensure that data really reach their destination.

Embedding of BootP, TFTP, and DHCP into the TCP/IP protocol stack

File transfer between the client and the server is quite simple. The individual data packets that make up the file have a fixed packet length of 512 bytes. They are individually numbered for the transmission, sent in sequence and confirmed individually before the next packet is sent. In contrast to FTP lost packets are not repeated. The transmission stops when a packet with a length of less than 512 bytes occurs, as this indicates the final payload packet in the file.
