When you leave your desk, for whatever reason, it would be great to have a way of leaving a message for anybody who arrives at your desk only to discover you are not there. This has inspired the Passing Notes application to run on the IP phone’s [[optiPoint_application_module|APM]]. The idea behind this is that rather than scribbling a message on a piece of paper which could get lost on your desk or removed by a passer-by, use the IP Phone display unit to show a message detailing why you are away from your desk and give them the option to leave a name, number and message to view when you return.

Scope

This has inspired the Passing Notes application to run on the IP phone’s APM. The idea behind this is that rather than scribbling a message on a piece of paper which could get lost on your desk or removed by a passer-by, use the IP Phone display unit to show a message detailing why you are away from your desk and give them the option to leave a name, number and message to view when you return.

Operation

Operational Overview:

  • Passing Notes application on the phone interacts with the server using XML.
  • The server provides XML to the phone which the application renders into a screen for the user to interact with.
  • The user’s interaction with the phone results in key-value pairs being passed back to the server for processing.

Key Features

  • Set An Away Message

User can create a message saying why they are away from desk along with return time and alternate contact number.

  • Passers-by can leave Notes

Anyone can turning up at your desk can read your away message and leave you a note with contact number.

  • View And Delete Notes

When an user returns he can view any notes left and if person provided a contact number than he can call him through application.

  • Quick Set Feature

User can create a default message which they can set at press of menu option.

  • Create Your Own Template

User can create / edit custom templates to use for away messages.
