The OpenStage 60 SIP and OpenStage 80 SIP Release Notes help you to find, in descending order:

  • New implemented features
  • Corrected bugs
  • Known and still open issues (eventually with workarounds)

for each specific OpenStage SIP phone software version considered.

Read more about new or hidden SIP features.

Software versioning / naming

A new software versioning scheme was introduced, it requires that a new versioning name should be adopted for each software product.
Software product version will be now identified with the string:

V x[.y] R m.f.h

in which field:

  • x[.y] denotes the Major release level
  • m denotes the Minor release level
  • f denotes the Fix release level
  • h denotes the Hotfix level

This naming convention scheme does not imply any naming requirements for file / files available.

More informations on the New Software Versioning scheme wiki page.

OpenStage SIP V3R1

General information V3R1

What’s New?

Area Summary
Functionality OpenStage SIP Phone Deployment in Cloud Environments (available for Asterisk, later release planned for OpenScape Voice) - The cloud service provider delivers a factory standard phone to their customer and provides a PIN to be entered by the customer when the phone starts up. There is no further setup of the customer necessary.
Functionality Video Telephony for OpenStage 60/80 (available for Asterisk, later release planned for OpenScape Voice) - With video call feature it is possible to make video calls with OpenStage 60/80 SIP devices. For this feature H.263 Codec is supported with resolution QCIF=176×144. Basic call features such as hold, retrieve, mute, un-mute, consult work within video call feature. Note: In the first step, there are only video calls from OpenStage to OpenStage phones supported.
User Interface Enhancements Activating/deactivating Hold and hang-up on nonkeyset (single-line) Openstage Phones (released for connection to OpenScape Voice V7, available for Asterisk) - This function works in the following call scenario: You have placed a call on hold and hang up. You can use hold and hang up to determine whether you will be prompted immediately of after a defined time to retrieve the held call.
User Interface Enhancements Improved Call-log (released for connection to OpenScape Voice V7, available for Asterisk) - The new configuration option will allow Call Log to be deactivated - ensuring privacy/security, e.g. Call Log records are not held by the phone and also avoiding possible discrepancy, when other devices/products are being used to maintain a call log.
User Interface Enhancements HD Wideband Audio Logo (released for connection to OpenScape Voice V7, available for Asterisk) - The OpenStage supports high quality audio by virtue of the G.722 Wideband audio codec. During an active call it is pointed out with HD Wideband Audio Logo to this function.
User Interface Enhancements Simplified Chinese Step 1 for OpenStage 60 SIP (released for connection to OpenScape Voice V7R0, available for Asterisk)
Serviceability & Administration Rapid State Diagnosis Call for OpenScape Solution – Activate diagnostic call (released for connection to OpenScape Voice V7) - This feature provides the possibility to place a diagnostic call, which starts call related tracing on the phone and on the involved OpenScape Voice. With all these traces available, a call can be followed throughout the voice system and a possible problem can be detected faster. As all traces from all involved components are available at the 1st level support, the analysis of a possible problem can be started immediately.
Serviceability & Administration Alternative to DLS Contact Me – SIP Notify (available for Asterisk, later release planned for OpenScape Voice) - With this feature a new mechanism is introduced to allow the phone to detect that the DLS needs the phone to establish a connection.

OpenStage SIP V3R0

What’s New?

Area Summary
Network OpenStage SIP V3 supports IPv4 and IPv6 operation based on a dual stack implementation. This also allows dual IP operation (IPv4 and IPv6 in parallel).

OpenStage offers ANAT for IPv4 / IPv6 inter working.

Network / Audio For better supporting specific configurations (e.g. networks with long latency) OpenStage phones can be configured to 60ms paket size now.
Network / Security The network authentication feature IEEE802.1x is now also supporting PEAP (Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol ) as an authentication method (in addition to EAP-TLS).
Security A number of security enhancements have been introduced in various areas:
  • Powerful configurable password policy
  • DLS secure mode with PIN
  • OpenStage already supported secure media (encrypted calls/SRTP) using the Mikey-0 option and V3R0 also offers SDES support
  • The XML application platform is supporting https now
  • Access to WBM can be disabled
  • Reset to factory settings via hooded claw can be disabled
  • USB port can be disabled
  • Security log is available now
  • ...for more details see sales information document and manuals
Serviceability A number of traces will be enabled per default now - this reduces time needed to obtain some initial trace information in case a problem has occurred.

The default size for trace files has been increased as well.

Serviceability Diagnosis data can be read locally or remotely by admin and - if configured- by user, reducing time and effort for trouble shooting.
SIP support For server type "Asterisk" OpenStage does support functional call back now (CCBS/CCNR).
Interfaces / Bluetooth A subset of the Bluetooth Hands Free Profile (HFP) has been added, providing more functionality in addition to the already existing Headset profile (HSP) and supporting compatibility with newer BT headsets.
User Interface As a configurable option OpenStage phone can play DTMF tones received out-band which is useful in some cases / some configurations (e.g. when connecting to the PSTN via gateways).
User Interface Setting the call forwarding is a lot easier now, e.g. entering ad-hoc forwarding destinations and checking / setting forwarding types.
User Interface Users like contact center agents that auto-answer calls via AICS/ZIP tone feature are gaining efficiency - terminated consultation calls automatically reconnect held calls now.

Up to now Unify is the first and only company with their VoIP devices to adhere to these high standards on protecting the environment and climate with regards to energy efficiency and using eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes. Please visit: http://www.blauer-engel.de/en/products_brands/search_products/produkttyp.php?id=559
  • Device based Call Recording for OpenStage SIP The feature "Call recording" relies on the presence of a (centralized) voice recorder in the network which acts as a SIP endpoint, and which a SIP phone can call to record the speech from an established call. The recorder will record all media sent to it. This approach was previously implemented on the Optipoint phones: The phone uses the audio mixing capabilities, normally used for the local audio conference capability, to merge the audio/media streams of both parties involved in the call and uses a supplementary call to connect to a voice recording device.
  • OpenStage SIP: Push support for SEND URL This feature is based on the Send URL feature. The Send URL mechanism is enhanced with a push mechanism available for XML applications. With the push mechanism it is possible to control an LED on an FPK/FFK on the phone independently from user action on the FPK/FFK. Note: The send URL feature does not support NAT. That means that the IP addresses in both send URL HTTP request and the push request must be reachable both by the phone and the application server.
  • Audible key click It is now possible to generate acoustic feedback (key clicks) on key press action. The user has control over which group of keys to produce the key click: Number keypad only or all keys. The user is able to select the Key click configuration option via WBM or the Settings menu on the phone itself.
  • Simplified procedure to initiate a conference V2R2 has improvements in 2 ways: A new context sensitive menu item, “Start conference” respectively “Add to conference” is added to call menus for single-connected calls or connected conference calls respectively. The “Conference” FPK function has been modified so that if the FPK is pressed when there is a single call or a conference is connected, a normal consultation call is started and the other party is taken into the conference.
  • Mobility Log-on/off times improved DLS Mobility log on/ log-off time is reduced from between 60 - 120 seconds down to approximately 30 seconds for an OpenStage IP phone registered on an OpenScape Voice server. However: In case of a forced log-on* it takes a little longer (between 30 & 60 seconds). FORCED LOGON - A Mobile user is already logged on a device and a logon on a different device is attempted.
  • Fixed keys like Disconnect, Redial (OS 20&40), Call Forward & Voice Dial (OS 60&80) are now programmable The following functions become available for the FFKs (fixed function keys): Hold, Consult, Conference, Repertory Dial, New feature “Home button” (aka “Show phone screen”) for OS 20 SIP & OS SIP 40.
  • Clear screen / Home button programmable on OS 15, 20 & 40 A new FPK/FFK feature providing a simple shortcut to Callview mode (to return the phone back to the home screen to make a new call). Pressing such a programmed FPK/FFK is the OS40/20/15 equivalent of pressing a dedicated CallView mode key (which OS40/20/15 does not have).
  • OpenStage SIP: Secure Interface to OSM The interface between phone and OSM has been improved. The data is now encrypted so that the information between phone and OSM cannot be seen when tracing the network. The transfer of phonebook information is private. A new version of OSM is needed to work with OST V2R2: OpenStageManager V2 R2.2.0. From the user point of view to test the change, they just need to take the new version of OSM and use it the same way as before.

V2 R0.16.0

What’s New?

  • LDAP client simple search (RQ00027118) User interface change, for easier LDAP access
  • SSH access (RQ00025302) Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged over a secure channel between two computers. Encryption provides confidentiality and integrity.
  • Preview key functionality (RQ00025112) (Openscape Voice only) This enhancement introduces the ability for users to decide whether they pre-view lines before using them. They do this by switching the Preview mode on and off using an FPK
  • Directed call pickup enhancements (RQ00025095) (Openscape Voice V4.0 only) This feature extends the Directed Pickup feature as implemented in OpenStage SIP V1R4 to allow the OpenStage user (keyset or non keyset) to pickup calls which have been manually held by a keyset user in the Openscape Voice environment.
  • AICS ZIP tone (RQ00021476) This feature increases productivity of agents receiving calls distributed by an ACD system or for hunt group members. It allows an agent using a headset to put the phone into a mode where incoming calls are automatically answered without ringing and without any key press, and without the Openscape Voice providing any additional signalling information specific to the auto answer.
  • Ringer preview (RQ00026726) The requirement is to change the ringer selection UI provided by the user menu, such that while the user is browsing the tones/melodies or files, they are automatically played to indicate what the chosen ringer will sound like.
  • Distinctive ringing (RQ00023757, RQ00026540) The SIP Server may provide information within an incoming call indication or ringer request that a specific ringer is to be used. A table is maintained in the phone to provide a list of different ring types that may be selected by the switch for use with an incoming call.
  • Dial plan (RQ00024810) The Dial Plan feature allows an OpenStage phone to determine the completeness of a dialled number so that the phone can start the dialling process without the user explicitly having to select a further option such as "dial" or "OK" after entering the last digit.
  • Copy contact (RQ00024315) With this feature a Personal Phone Book contact can be automatically created using the contact details from LDAP or Call Log.
  • Terminal host name (RQ00024220) This feature allows the string that the phone attempts to register with the DNS via DDNS to be customised by Admin.
  • URL on FPK (RQ00026538) The basic requirement for the FPKs is that all keys (including those on any sidecar units attached) can be configured with a URL (termed "send URL" key). Pressing the key sends the URL to the server using an HTTP request.
  • TAB navigation (RQ00024373) The tab bar becomes an item that can be highlighted by scrolling upwards in the screen. Tabs can be scrolled in either direction using the Left and Right arrow keys.
  • Back arror to call view (RQ00024374) A normal (not long) press of the Left arrow key whilst any line (not the tab navigation bar) of a top level screen of a phonelet is highlighted and active should change the mode focus to the Call View application.
  • DSS call forwarding status option (RQ00025099) (Openscape Voice only) The forwarding state will be indicated using the DSS Key led, and will also be reflected in the associated DSS/LINE overview screen.
  • Call forwarding information during connect display (RQ00025108) (Openscape Voice only) This is an enhancement to the existing capability to indicate call forwarding history in the alerting display for in incoming call.
  • Hotline/Warmline (RQ00025109, RQ00024850) This features gives the ability for the OpenStage Phone to auto-dial either immediately the user goes off-hook (Hot Line/Phone) or after a period of inactivity by the user (Warm Line/Phone). Release Note page 33 (of 33) OpenStage SIP V2R0.16.0
  • TLS Survivabiliy (RQ00024754) (Openscape Voice only) This feature request is required to extend the "Survivability using a Survivable Proxy" so that it is fully conformant with the OSCAR 4.0 chapter 11.1.15.
  • Configuration MWI count names (RQ00026537) The new options introduced will allow the text for the labels displayed against the counts by the Messaging Phonelet (associated with the four counts of New, New urgent, Old and Old Urgent) to be specified, and to allow any combination of the four counts (and associated labels) to be marked as shown or hidden.
  • Key module paper (RQ00026529) The support for this key module is restricted to Openstage 40 and Openstage 15. Only one key module can be connected.
  • OpenStage 15 (RQ00025658) Support for Openstage 15 is introduced.
  • Support of CS5 in QoS Layer 3 settings (RQ00026749) Support for code point CS5 is introduced
  • Renaming of skins (RQ00028438) New names for display themes.
  • Fixed_Forward (RQ00026539) (Asterisk only) The fixed forwarding key is capable of having the key programmed as alternative function to the default built-in forwarding.
  • HPT_Remote_Control (RQ00024398) The feature is based on the use of the HPT test tool which can set up a remote connection with a phone and allows the tool user to manipulate and monitor the Phone in use.
  • Remote_Trace_Activation (RQ00025931) The configuration of the remote trace feature is made available via Admin WBM and also via the DLS interface.
  • 3rd_Call_Leg (RQ00025092) This feature allows the phone to provide a 3rd call for some limited scenarios associated with Call Waiting or picked up calls.
  • Proxy_Mode_Enhancements (Openscape Voice only) (RQ00027518) This feature improves the robustness of the survivability solution by providing a reliable mechanism for the phones to synchronise with the survivability mode of the survivable proxy during the normal SIP registration cycle.
  • Managing_User_Data_By_DLS_Step1 (RQ00026280) Additonal items from the user configuration menu can be managed by the DLS.
  • DCMP (RQ00023213) This feature enhances the existing OpenStage phone’s DLS interface by providing a means for the OpenStage SIP Phone to make use of a DLS Server which is deployed behind a Firewall/NAT.
  • Improved Logging (RQ00025298, RQ00028432) Improves the level of information available for error analysis.
  • Web based management (RQ00028569) Access to the phone web pages is possible via HTTPS only. HTTP is not longer supported. Connections to the http port are automatically redirected to the https port.
  • Multi_Line_Bridging (Openscape Voice V4.0 only) (RQ00023570) This feature allows a Keyset user to Bridge into (join) an existing call, by pressing the line key of a shared line appearance which is busy with that call.
  • Konftel support (RQ00027704) Support for the Konftel conference unit is introduced; for Bluetooth connection only.
  • OpenStage 40: Immediate start of energy saver(RQ00027978)
  • Download WBM certificate using DLS(RQ00028737) DLS can load a WBM certificate into the phone RQ00025304, RQ00027070 File Management setup 1 User feedback is given about how much of the available file space is used/available. For this feature OpenStage Manager V2 is required.

What’s New?

  • The SIP retry after parameter (RFC 3261) is supported
  • For better supporting survivability features of the OpenScape Voice, also FQDN will be supported in SIP messages and routed correctly by the network
  • The Busy Lamp Feature (BLF) for monitoring extension states is implemented according to the Asterisk implementation
  • The keypad (1-9,*0#) can be used for direct input into XML application
  • The following countries were added: Turkey
  • The following languages were added: Indonesian, Malay, Brazilian Portuguese, Catalan, Estonian, American English, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Slovenian, Serbian, Greek, Bulgarian (Cyrillic), Macedonian (Cyrillic), Serbian (Cyrillic), Japanese (on OpenStage 20, 20E and 40 only)
  • Support for LLDP-MED is introduced
  • It is possible to start a configured XML application via FPK
  • Some MWI enhancements (RFC 3842 and RFC 3265) were introduced
  • The OpenStage Manager can upload and delete ringer tones to the phone
  • The new FPK settings, introduced with V1R5, are supported by OpenStage Manager
  • The name HiPath 8000 was replaced by OS Voice in the SIP server type menu (Admin->System->Registration->Sip session->Server type
  • The default setting for LLDP-MED is now “ON”. As a result, the VLAN discovery method default is now “LLDP_MED discovered”.
  • from V1R5.x on the user has to manually configure the device type which is connected to the headset port (via the "Settings --> User --> Audio --> Settings --> Headset socket"). It is important to set the parameter correctly to achieve the best voice quality. DECT Headsets have to be set to "Cordless headset", while the Wired headsets have to be set to "Wired headset". The third setting "Conference unit" is prepared to connect a conference unit from Konftel in the future (this will be released separately as soon as an appropriate cable is available from Konftel). Bluethooth headsets are not affected by this configuration parameter
