Preface

This How To describes the connection of OpenStage 60 or 80 device to the Open Directory Service.

It is written based on OSO version V3R2. Deviations may occur, if higher versions are used.

Only the ODS relevant setting are described here. For general OpenStage LDAP configuration issues have a look at:

All data shown here and also the screenshots are examples only, which are used to demonstrate the capabilities.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you have to check some prerequisites otherwise the connection fails.

  • Fully installed and operational OSO system
  • ODS is active within the OSO system
  • ODS is successfully connected to an external database
  • OpenStage 60/80 (HFA) phone is conneced to OSO
  • IP address of the OpenStage phone
  • FTP Server as Download source for the openStage 60/80 LDAP template file
  • openStage 60/80 LDAP template file specific for ODS

Configuration of OpenStage 60

Within the following the configuration of an openStage 60 phone is described without using an deployment server.

For configuration the Web-Based Management of openStage 60/80 is used.

After typing in https://OS-ip-address into a Internet browser, the web based managemnet of the phone is opened. (OS-ip-address is used here a placehoder for the ip-address of the phone.)
Select administration mode and enter the appropriate password.

Access to ODS LDAP Server

In a first step the access date for the OSD LDAP server must be entered. Cherfore choose "Local functions" --> "LDAP settings" from the menue

and type in the access data for the ODS LDAP Server as shown in the next picture.

Do not forget to replace IP address etc. with the real values. User name and password are those, which were defined within the ODS LDAP configuration.

Download LDAP Template into OpenStage Phone

In a second step the OpenStage Phone has to download the LDAP template file, which contains the mapping between the LDAP fields of ODS and OpenStage.
As a precondition the LDAP template file has to created be uploaded previously to a FTP server. The setting are doen within the OpenStage administartion under "file transfer" --> "LDAP"

the appropiate data for the ftp server location and the location of the file name have to be filled in.

OS60 LDAP ODS5.png

In this example the ftp server has the IP adr. 172.30.242.114 and port 21.
The LDAP template file ODS_OS_LDAP.txt, which contain the LDAP mapping, is located within the root directory of the ftp server "/".
Within this example FTP Server does not require a login, therefore anonymous can be used .

Note: The picture above shows the status after successful download. To initiate the download the field "After submit" has to be set to "download" before the submit button is pressed.

Create LDAP Template file for ODS

The template has to be created in a simple text editor as a plain text file, which contains the following assignment

OS60 LDAP ODS3.png

The picture shows the mapping for the ODS. The file must be stored with file extention "txt", e.g. ODS_OS60_LDAP.txt.

The example file can be downloaded here

Setup of a local FTP Server

The LDAP template file has to be uploaded or copied previously to an FTP Server, which can be downloaded by the OpenStage 60/80 phone.
In case, that no FTP Server is available or accessible, a small FTP Server should be installed on a service PC, which is temporariliy connected to the network.

A suitable samll and easy to handle ftp server is "3CDaemon" by 3Com. 3CDaemon is freeware and can be downloaded from several locations within the internet like

After installation the ftp server can be started on the PC.
Administration dialog can be opened by a mouse click to file --> configure selected service.

Within the tab "FTP profiles" the login credentials and the root path of the ftp server can be set. The LDAP template file must be copied into the directory, which is entered here as ftp root directory. In order to faciliate the handling, no login and password should be used.

Aktivitities of 3CDaemon can be watched directl in the main window.

The control buttons in the left navigation bar allow to start/stop of the ftp sever etc.
