The Deployment Service (DLS) is a HiPath Management application for administering workpoints (optiPoint telephones and optiClient installations) in both HiPath and non-HiPath networks.

Most important features:

  • Software deployment: DLS is a user-friendly tool for upgrading software on all workpoints available or on a definable number of workpoints.
  • Inventory data management: The DLS is the central inventory data manager for workpoints. Inventory data describes the hardware configuration and capacity of the workpoint and includes information on items, such as, add-on devices or adapters available. Inventory data can be exported over the CSV interface.
  • Plug&play function (for optiPoint): The DLS supports plug&play. Plug&play means that the optiPoint is ready to work as soon as it is plugged into the network - no user intervention required. Ideally, the workpoint automatically downloads all necessary software and configuration data and can be used after a few minutes.
  • User Mobility for optiPoint SIP phones (Only available for HiPath 8000 solutions): DLS is a tool that supports the user mobility feature on optiPoint SIP phones and permits the configuration and administration of Mobile Users. You can use these options to migrate existing workpoints and implement mobile user standards.
  • The DLS is designed as a client / server application. It provides a Java-supported, Web-based user interface, and runs on an Internet browser.

Capacity Limits and Restrictions

  • Maximum number of SIP users supported: 20000 (for details see scalability information in the release note)
  • Maximum number of DLS users logged on at one time: 5
  • When you use DLS, you can only configure one FTP server for software deployment.
  • You can only use the plug&play functionality in DLS if there is a DHCP/DNS infrastructure in the network and this has been configured for operation with the DLS.
  • You can only install one DLS per domain in the network.
  • The DLS user interface is available in German and English.
  • NAT is not yet supported by DLS.
